Primary Responsibilities

Human Resource Duties:

  • Culture – Lead, advocate, and champion a shared corporate culture that fosters learning and continuous improvement that will enhance our competitiveness and profit.  Engage team and support managers to drive processes to actively develop our common company values, vision, and mission.
  • Workforce Planning – Partner with senior leadership and management to evaluate staffing needs, develop the appropriate organizational structure, define roles, and develop/execute effective recruitment and development strategies
  • Company Growth – Support the company’s growth strategy by playing an active role in mergers and acquisitions.  Address employee matters in the due diligence and integration processes
  • Management – Develop new programs while enhancing current programs and ensure successful implementation of strategies, policies, and standards in all areas of HR including: talent management, performance management, payroll/benefits, leadership development, training, and succession planning.  Provide oversight for a human resources staff of 3 employees and an administrative assistant.  Foster a culture that promotes employee engagement, teamwork and excels in innovation and change implementation.  Coach and enable staff to effectively and productively interact with other departments
  • Communication – Work with the Company’s leadership team to represent and effectively communicate common messaging, expectations and direction to employees across all levels of the company.  Develop and manage corporate social responsibility policies for the company, its stakeholders, and the public.
  • Compliance – Provide the internal communications and guidance necessary to ensure compliance with the organization’s policies and procedures, as well as local, state and Federal regulations.  Recognize when outside counsel is necessary and direct their efforts to reduce risk and achieve satisfactory outcomes

Communications/Public Relations Duties:

  • Recognize, represent, and communicate the company’s expectations and culture to all employees across all levels of the company. Proactively identify issues and consult with senior management to overcome these obstacles
  • Develop and implement internal and external communications plan
  • Consistently identify key messages, audiences, and critical channels
  • Develop, edit, and coordinate approvals for news releases, talking points, internal stories, organizational announcements and presentations
  • Support crisis communications planning and response
  • Coordinate responses to media inquiries, support media interviews, and act as spokesperson when designated
  • Author press releases on brand acquisitions or key programs
  • Tracks and reports on regional brand marketing efforts
  • Secure publicity opportunities for Supplier partners
  • Work closely with CEO and General Counsel to effect government relations and lobbying efforts
  • Oversee website and employee communications
  • Know, understand, and abide by all Federal and State laws pertaining to alcoholic beverages
  • Understand and comply with all State and Federal regulations regarding the sale and promotion of assigned products
  • Attend, participate, and complete all company regulatory and required trainings

Engagement and Community Relations:

  • Reinforce a positive company culture through employee engagement and recognition programs
  • Implement public relation strategies and community outreach programs that support our employee’s interests and further our role in the community
  • Develop and expand relationships with community leaders and media representatives
  • Support marketing initiatives; organize events and coordinate all volunteers. Serve as ambassador during company engagements
  • Implement the company’s giving philosophy ensuring fairness, maximum impact and appropriate publicity
  • Coordinate and oversee in kind and monetary gifts through decision making bodies
  • Facilitate the sharing of best practices across branches and networks through activities and memberships in local and national professional organizations
  • May be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

Essential Characteristics

  • Direct experience and a willingness to work alongside colleagues in executing HR initiatives are vital.  This is a role that blends strategic oversight with hands-on execution of policies, procedures and initiatives
  • Strong business acumen, strategic mindset, and a strong eye for talent are required

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to compose corporate messages.  Demonstrated facilitation and presentation skills are expected, with the ability to interact and work well across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously. Must be able to delegate tasks appropriately and maintain attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to keep information confidential, build rapport and resolve conflict in a fair and consistent manner
  • A strong track record as an implementer with proven experience developing and implementing communication strategies
  • Team player with the ability to adapt his or her approach across a diverse employee base.  Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence”
  • Highly collaborative with a solid work ethic and high ethical standards
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel and HRIS Systems; ADP Workforce Now a plus

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, organizational development, communications, psychology, economics or a similar field is highly desirable.  An advanced degree in a related field would be a plus
  • At least 10 years of progressive experience in human resources, including senior management experience and direct involvement and oversight of both the strategic and transactional aspects of HR are required
  • A strong leadership record, including sales, marketing and/or distribution industry experience is preferred
  • Familiarity with providing human resources and community support for multiple locations in different states is desirable
  • Experience handling human resource matters in mergers and acquisitions is desirable
  • Spanish language capability and/or experience in a union environment would be beneficial
  • SPHR certification is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience in communications principles, theory, planning processes, execution tactics and a variety of communications platforms
